About The Role

Vivergo Fuels are seeking an experienced Process Assurance Manager to join the Continuous Improvement team at our Bioethanol and Animal feed plant, based at Saltend in Hull.
The primary objective of the role is to manage the process safety risks of the Vivergo business. The role also takes a lead on continuous improvement of process safety activities to achieve the Vivergo operations performance contract. To achieve this, the post-holder will need to have an extensive knowledge of the process technology, a prominent level of process engineering expertise and the skills to challenge business as usual to identify and deliver ongoing improvement.

Key Responsibilities 

The Process Assurance Manager will be responsible for Process Assurance and is accountable for integrity management and its associated legislative compliance.
Networking with shareholder and governmental organisations on Process Safety and Integrity developments issues and practices will be a key deliverable. As the Vivergo Single Point of Accountability for Process Integrity there is also a direct reporting line into the Vivergo Fuels MD to ensure that any associated business critical impacts in this key area are able to be addressed directly.
The post holder provides process engineering consultancy and leads the management of change (management authority approval) for this plant.

Role specific responsibilities include:
  •  Assurance of business compliance with all statutory regulations including:
  • o Health and Safety at Work Act, Management Regulations, Environmental Protection Act, and the associated legislation applicable to VFL Operations
  • o Environmental Permit regulations
  • Monitor Process Safety performance and report to senior management on progress
  • Engineering Authority for all aspects of engineering. Implement the codes and standards for plant operation, maintenance, and design
  • Provide assurance of compliance and ongoing performance improvement to Process Safety
  • Define and implement the processes and procedures to effectively manage Process safety e.g. HAZOP, pHSSEr, LOPA, PSSR etc
  • Maintain an understanding of the major hazard risks within Vivergo and from neighbouring operators. Major Accident Prevention Policy – POL-HSE-001
  • Development and implementation of improvement strategies for plant integrity compliance (COMAH / Environmental Permit) and to challenge and optimise existing policies, practices and procedures.
  • Operation of the Vivergo ‘Management of Change’ system to comply with the Vivergo Safety Standard and to maintain the MOC database.
  • Champions the “next unplanned event” exercise for the plant and ensures potential solutions are captured in the appropriate prioritization system
  • Provides chemical engineering approval for the technical content of modification request, including calculations, risk assessments, datasheets, and drawings
  • Mentor other process engineers within the team and over the wider engineering function
  • Define competency of lead engineers and Process Safety advisors to Vivergo

Salary: £60,000 - £67,000 depending on experience, plus 10% benefits package.

Contract: Permanent

Working hours: 37.5 per week, Monday - Friday.

Based at the Vivergo Fuels Site at the Saltend Chemicals Park in Hull.

About You

The successful Process Assurance Manager will display a cooperative communication style, and will enjoy to collaborate with their peers in order to facilitate the team togetherness which is synonymous with Vivergo team culture.
Knowledge – skills and experience required
  • Degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers
  • Experience of working in a similar technical position on an Upper Tier COMAH site
  • NEBOSH diploma preferred or equivalent
  • Proven relevant industrial experience including plant operations and design
  • A working knowledge of process safety, HAZOP studies, PHA, LOPA, area classification, process commissioning and current legislative requirements e.g. COMAH and EP
  • Management of Change approval
  • A good working knowledge of national and international codes and standards pertaining to process design and equipment selection
  • Excellent communicator who actively builds and develops stakeholder relationships
  • An experienced manager with demonstrable leadership skills and a knowledge of ‘world class’ management systems and processes

In simple terms we convert locally sourced feed wheat into both bioethanol, a more environmentally friendly transport fuel, and a highly nutritious animal feed for the dairy industry.
